When Roger Tachoir handled the upkeep on a ’57 Chevy that he needed to travel back and forth to California University of Pennsylvania, he didn’t think a convenient hobby would develop into a full-time career in a family-owned business with his wife Kathy Griznik Tachoir. “When he graduated, more people would ask him to work on cars,” Kathy recalled. “He was a teacher. He could work on evenings, weekends, and all summer long.” While the hobby began earlier, Tachoir Auto Body became an official business in January 1973.
As the business started to expand, we continued to adapt. “We started buying equipment,” Roger said. “I borrowed money from the teachers’ credit union to build the first part of this garage, and I built it myself with the help of a few guys. Then we added on every five years or so.” Keeping up to date with industry trends, Tachoir Auto Body continuously upgrades its equipment and operational systems to serve its customers – computerizing everything from paint mixing to frame measuring. “We’ve done things right,” Roger said. “Many of our staff are long-term employees. They’re trust-worthy. They’re dependable. They know about quality. They know about integrity.”
Customers receive a written guarantee on all Tachoir work that is valid for as long as they own the car. “We treat our customers like people,” Roger said. “We take them by the hand, and we get to know them. Our customers tell their insurance companies they want to come to us. We treat them well, and the quality is there.” Tachoir Auto Body has helped repeat customers and generations of families through their repair needs. Today, they have regional adjusters and national insurance company staff recommending their body shop for work.
In October of 2017, Roger and Kathy Tachoir passed the business along to the capable hands of Eric Capenos as they moved into retirement. Eric and Tachoir’s employees have been working hard to continue the legacy of providing quality repairs, fair pricing and guaranteed customer service.
